Home Energy Ratings & HERS Indexes:

A home energy rating involves an analysis and modeling of a home’s construction and includes onsite inspections. Using an energy efficiency software package we perform an energy analysis of the home’s design. The rater conducts onsite inspections, typically including a blower door test (to test the leakiness of the house) and a duct test (to test the leakiness of the ducts).

Results of these tests, along with inputs derived from the plan review, are used to generate an energy use model for the home and analyze potential cost/savings benefits of various upgrades. This energy modeling also generates a HERS Index score for the home. The HERS index can be used for Energy Efficiency Mortgages and Federal Tax Credits for energy efficient homes.
